CustomVue Wavefront
CustomVue™ LASIK Individualized Laser Vision Correction was developed by VISX, recognized worldwide for bringing innovation and break-through technology to laser vision correction. Using WaveScan™-based digital technology, originally developed for use in high-powered telescopes to reduce distortions when viewing distant objects in space, doctors can now capture unique imperfections in each individual's vision that could not have been measured before using standard methods.
The information captured using the WaveScan technology is transferred to the laser, providing a new level of precision and accuracy. This new level of measurement provides 25 times more precision than with standard methods used for glasses and contact lenses.
Just like a fingerprint, each person's vision is 100 percent unique to their eyes. Before the recent advancements in technology, doctors were only able to use standard measurement to correct vision. With the CustomVue™ LASIK procedure, no two "prescriptions" are identical.
CustomVue can measure and correct the unique imperfections of each individual's vision and provide them with the potential to experience better vision than is possible with glasses or contact lenses.
More than six million eyes in the U.S. and around the world have been successfully treated with VISX Star™ excimer lasers.
Could my vision get worse?
The CustomVue LASIK procedure is FDA-approved for improving vision safely and effectively. Its outcomes are exceptional: In clinical studies, more than 92% of patients could pass a driving test without glasses or contact lenses one year after treatment. And three times as many patients were very satisfied with their night vision after treatment, than were beforehand using glasses or contact lenses.
What can I expect the day of the procedure?
On the day of the procedure, anesthetic drops are placed into the patient's eyes. The patient's unique correction information is transferred from the WaveScan™ to the laser. Laser vision correction works by gently reshaping the cornea with the cool beam from the laser to remove microscopic amounts of tissue -- less than the thickness of a human hair in most cases -- to create a new curvature. The procedure typically takes several seconds and the majority of individuals feel only mild discomfort and slight sensitivity to light. Many patients notice immediate results after CustomVue and their vision continues to improve over several days.
Can I have this procedure if I have astigmatism?
Treatments are available for a variety of patients including those with astigmatism, whether the astigmatism is associated with nearsightedness, farsightedness, or mixed astigmatism. Recent advancements in treatments for people with mixed astigmatism are especially encouraging. Until recently, these people faced unique challenges because their vision is often difficult to correct with glasses and contact lenses. They now have potential to achieve better vision than before with glasses and contact lenses.
